A Swedish silver commemorative ring from 1940 with crossed rifles in relief and preserved military decoration along the band.
The shield-shaped front displays two crossed muskets or rifles in raised relief. Military-style decoration extends along both sides of the band, with sword-like motifs, beaded borders and defined linear details. Darker patination within the recessed areas emphasises the weapons and surrounding ornament.
Crossed rifles are an established emblem of Swedish infantry. The motif appears in Swedish Army branch insignia from the m/1906 uniform system and continued in later systems, where two crossed muskets or rifles represented the infantry.
The decoration along the sides also draws on a broader military visual tradition associated with swords and edged weapons. The combination of crossed rifles and blade-like motifs unites the central infantry emblem with older military symbolism, while the principal design on the shield clearly identifies the infantry connection.
The date letter O8 identifies the year 1940. This places the ring within the historical context of Sweden’s wartime preparedness period, when military service, mobilisation and branch affiliation held considerable personal significance. The ring may have been commissioned as a private memento of service or mobilisation.
The marks KIRSCH, the Swedish cat’s-paw control mark with three crowns, S and O8 identify it as a Swedish assayed silver object. The clearly preserved relief and military side decoration give the ring documentary interest within the history of Swedish military jewellery.
