Silver-Tone Filigree Clip-On Earrings
Openwork metal spheres with dense spirals and leaf motifs give these silver-tone clip-on earrings an airy volume and a distinctive retro character.
Each rounded form is constructed from fine metal wire arranged in a lace-like pattern. Dense spirals and leaf motifs add depth to the surface, while the short link beneath the clip fitting allows the spheres to move freely. The open construction gives the generous form a light and airy presence around the face.
The design has an intriguing stylistic connection to the charro filigree tradition of Salamanca. The traditional botón charro is a round dress ornament, often made in silver and decorated with concentrically arranged spherical motifs, with an established place in the region’s folk metalwork.
The attribution is limited to a stylistic reference: the lace-like surface, rounded volume and concentric spirals echo this tradition. The clip-on mechanism and silver-tone base metal place the pair within European retro jewellery production from approximately the 1950s to the 1970s.
The silver tone works well with black, white, denim and solid-coloured dresses. The clip fittings also make the earrings suitable for unpierced ears. Preserved patina rests within the recesses of the wirework and sharpens the relief of the spirals and leaf motifs.
