Filigree Earrings with Green Glass Beads, c. 1950–1970
Round green glass beads, antique-gold-tone filigree and decorative metal beads give the pair an unusually rich retro silhouette.
The green beads have a deep colour with lively tonal variation and are held between two filigree metal caps forming an ornamental, crown-like setting. Above them are two openwork metal beads separated by a ridged spiral spacer. The composition is completed by leverback fittings with decorative lancet-shaped details.
Filigree work surrounding coloured beads has a long history in European jewellery. The combination of antique-gold-tone metal, openwork filigree caps and coloured glass beads is closely associated with mid-20th-century costume jewellery and suggests a date of approximately 1950–1970.
The elongated drop and three-dimensional construction make the earrings a distinct focal point. Their deep green colour works well with both dark and light clothing. Subtle variations between the filigree caps are part of the pair’s hand-assembled vintage character.
