Antique Glass Necklace with Floral Clasp, Bavarian Forest, Bohemia
Milky pink glass, deep wine-red tones and an ornate floral clasp come together in a necklace with a distinctly antique character.
The floral clasp forms the visual centre, with riveted metalwork and set glass details in warm colours. Two separate strands extend from it, composed of oval and rounded glass beads in milky pink, transparent wine red and brownish violet. Pierced metal caps and hand-bent wire links place the construction firmly within the tradition of early costume jewellery craftsmanship.
Coloured jewellery glass and richly worked metal mounts held an important place in the Bohemian and Central European glassmaking regions. The necklace’s floral ornament, varied bead composition and patinated surface reflect this tradition. The glass carries both the colour and the historical character of a piece with clear collector appeal. Bohemia, the Bavarian Forest and Gablonz/Jablonec belong to Europe’s historic glassmaking regions, where glass beads and costume jewellery acquired their own artistic and commercial significance.
